For this series, I used a dominant red color palette to represent intensity, pressure, and overstimulation—emotions that reflect how social media can make everyday life feel performative. Red is often associated with urgency and attention, which mirrors the constant demand to capture, post, and seek validation online. By starting with deeper, darker reds, I wanted to visually communicate a sense of confinement and artificial energy.
As the slides progress, there is a gradual shift in both lighting and mood. The earlier slides feel more enclosed and staged, emphasizing themes like performance, validation, and filtered experiences. Visually, this is shown through darker tones, harsh lighting, and more structured compositions.
Moving forward, I introduced softer lighting, warmer natural tones, and more open imagery to symbolize a transition toward authenticity and presence. This shift represents the idea of “looking up”, both literally from our phones and metaphorically toward real-life experiences. The final slides feel lighter, more breathable, and more grounded in reality, reinforcing the message that life does not need to be documented to be meaningful.
